NSW ‘A’ wins women’s Cricket Australia Cup

Dec.12 (Cricket NSW): NSW ‘A’ has won the 2006/07 Cricket Australia Cup after remaining undefeated throughout the weeklong tournament in Melbourne (December 4-9).

Led by NSW Breakers squad member, Olivia Thornton, NSW ‘A’ scored victories over Victoria, Queensland and the ACT to take the title.

Kate Owen was one of the stand-out performers in the tournament winning the Batting Aggregate Award with 192 runs at an average of 64. She was also named the Player of the Series.

Leonie Coleman and Rene Farrell also impressed during the tournament with both players earning call ups to

NSW win fifth consecutive National U/15 title

Dec.12 (Cricket NSW): NSW has won the Cricket Australia U/15 Female Championships for a fifth consecutive time after rain washed out the final against Queensland in Newcastle today (December 12).

With no play at all possible in the final, NSW were awarded the Christina Matthews Shield as the highest ranked team after the preliminary rounds. They finished on 16 points with Queensland second on 15 points. Victoria was third on 14 points. South Australia and the ACT filled the bottom two places.

NSW lost only one match in the week-long tournament going down to Queensland by 29 runs on Sunday. They rebounded the following day to defeat the ACT by a massive 222 runs, securing two vital bonus points to move to the top of the ladder.
